In Cheng’s Lab, the electrochemical syntheses are conducted to achieve innovative transformations. By using electricity as the tremendous driving force, inert molecules can be activated by electron transfer at electrodes, giving rise to reactive species and products in turn.
Anodic oxygen evolution and cathodic hydrogen evolution are useful process in electrochemical reactions. By evolution of gas out of reaction system, stoichiometric reductant or oxidant can be avoided, leading to a greener synthesis.
In our lab, we are especially interested in the utilization of widely-existed molecule as starting material to build molecule with electrochemical method.
